Since moving to London I've realised that I needed a way to engage with the city, and painting, photography, film making won't completely satisfy this urge to interact with the world around me. I've realised that, above all, what I've always really wanted to do is write. So here I am trying to get back into proper writing which I'm not ashamed to publish online, any feedback, criticism, suggestions would be very much appreciated! I've opened a tumblr blog which I shall try and update regularly with review exhibitions and "all things London":

i'm worried about not painting for the whole of summer and then, when the hot season has left, not remembering where to start.

i want an old beautiful vintage film camera.

i want something to photograph.

i love the smell of summer storms aproaching.

hell, now i'm legal! and seeing i have made a fair amount of cash selling prints i'm buying a yearly subscription.. thus said, buy some of my prints make me happy support my stuff!

this seems to be a good time to say a few words on what i do. (first off i love photography as much as i love traditional art, my photography skills probably aren't anywhere as near as my skills or whatever-you wanna-call-it in drawing or painting. art is my connection with reality, i'm not much of a REALIST in everyday life - i'm either a complete optimist or total pessimist, but never somewhere in between.. so that's the style of painting i'm fitting myself in, REALISM. There's something one of my heroes Ralph Goings said about copying paintings directly from photographs, which is "It occurred to me that projecting and tracing the photograph instead of copying it freehand would be even more shocking. To copy a photograph literally was considered a bad thing to do. It went against all of my art school training... some people were upset by what I was doing and said 'it's not art, it can't possibly be art'. That gave me encouragement in a perverse way, because I was delighted to be doing something that was really upsetting people... I was having a hell of a lot of fun.."  and he was fuckin right. and if i like what i do and people like what i do what the hell. (i am and will be more conceptual and profound in my photography or in other means of art. or in the future, if i get good enough.)
i'm currently reading jack kerouac's The Dharma Bums and it's making me realize what is really important to me. so if you ever feel like leaving that comfortable mundane life, read it.

a word on 2008.
oh this has been a good year, i'll start worring when the years start getting worse than the ones before. this is not my case, and 2008 has been better than 2007 which had been better than 2006 and so forth. 2008 has been a good year indeed, especially the spring/early summer period.

and a word on 2009.
i wish for everyone to have a 2009 which is better than 2008, enjoy yourselves. i plan on writing some more and obviously painting a LOT seeing i'm quite liking the new media (oil). and me and my new lomo fisheye will be busy. guess that makes me a lomographer now. great fun.

that's about it, i'm obviously not putting much effort into writing some interesting things about the brief moment of time between two years.

-purchased "The Polaroid Book", amazing.

-went to the Locarno Film Festival, saw "Beautiful Losers", "lecture 21" (go see it if you have the chance!) and italian band Marlene Kuntz play live music for german silent 1920's movie "Fräulein Else", plus a bunch of other films.

-going to Zurich.

-then Bern.

-still doing portraits, hurray for me.

-thinking of buying a DA subscription.

so, most of my photos from ireland can be found on my flickr account, and some of my favorites here which i've given a vintage look, now that i've learned how to do it.

as you can see, i have NOT abandoned drawing portraits.

summer is hot and feels almost over.

so, finally i've got myself a new cam, a digital slr i spent all my savings on, and the sun is here, here for good it seems, and i just have to get through the last month of school, and my social life is doin good, so altogether i just feel happy and free and i know my life is completely in my hands.
..and maybe drawing portraits isn't really my thing anyways. i just like capturing people. and places though. you gotta love places.

last week i went to rome for a few days, was good. not very different from a bunch of other big cities.
still working on some tshirts, might take photo sometime. actually how long has it been since i've submitted something good? maybe i've just lost inspiration.

wow, "hair sweet hair just got over 2000 faves.. i'm so flattered. no idea how that happened. it's funny cos that's actually 1746 more faves than my second most popular portrait. thanks to every one of you.
